Talent Coaching Program

This program is designed for ethical businesses seeking to hire design talent but not sure how to assess it. Looking at a portfolio can be intimidating for hiring managers who aren’t immersed in the creative field. In recent years many have begun assigning hiring homework as a “test” of creative talent. This unscrupulous practice has many negatives including opening the company up to legal disputes. (If you’d like to learn more about the cons of hiring homework, please read my article on the topic published by Communication Arts, the leading magazine for creatives.)

In an effort to provide businesses with support in the creative hiring practices, studiowink Principal Nancy Goulet offers hiring help.

Please note: We are not a recruitment or talent agency.

Talent Coaching includes:

  • Resume and portfolio review of top candidates
  • A written assessment of top candidates
  • Optional: Zoom interviews of top candidates
  • Session with hiring manager to review findings

Testimonials

Nancy is a fantastic mentor for our students, providing expert advising and wise counsel to adult students as they seek to launch their careers in professional design. She works closely with individuals and tailors her approach to helping them based on their specific skills, interests, backgrounds, and personalities. Whether students are looking for a one-time individual assessment regarding what kind of design job or workplace might be the best fit; step-by-step coaching through a specific job application and interview process; or a longer-term relationship where they check-in with Nancy as their skills develop and career interests evolve over the course of several years, Nancy brings tremendous energy, care, skill, and a broad-based understanding of the design profession to helping them navigate their entry and/or progression in the field of professional communication design.

Alisa Aronson » Director, Communication Design Certificate Program + Associate Professor of Design, Massachusetts College of Art and Design

Nancy has been such a gift to my confidence as a designer as I’ve entered the professional graphic design world. I spoke with Nancy at various points in my journey, from early on in my certificate program in MassArt, to most recently, when she visited me at work to see me in my new role: Graphic Designer at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, a job that she encouraged me to apply to, helped prepare my portfolio for, and gave me interview tips for! I am so grateful for her authentic and inspiring support as I found my voice over the last five years.Throughout those five years, Nancy has been available for a conversation whenever I needed her: for advice on my first portfolio website design (which I desperately needed), figuring out what area of design I gravitated towards, updating resumes and cover letters, beginning an internship search, landing my first job before graduating from my program (!), burnout when my program got challenging, even offered advice and assistance when my first job didn’t turn out how I expected and needed to start the job search again . . . all of this to say that Nancy’s design mentorship has been extremely valuable to me, but more than her design insight, Nancy’s professional and life advice is beyond special. Nancy truly cares about her mentees!
